🚨 App crashes, freezes, or won't open

If the UDisc app is crashing, freezing, or won't open on your device, this article will walk you through troubleshooting steps to get you back on the course.

Most app crashes are resolved by restarting the app and your device, checking for updates, or reinstalling the app. Follow the steps below in order for the best results.

Common Issues & Solutions

Issue: App crashes immediately when opening

Try these steps in order:

  1. Force close and restart the app

    For iOS:

    • Swipe up from bottom of screen (or double-click home button)

    • Find UDisc in the app switcher

    • Swipe up on UDisc to close it completely

    • Wait 10 seconds

    • Tap the UDisc icon to reopen

    For Android:

    • Tap the Recent Apps button (square icon) or swipe up from the bottom of the screen and pause in the middle

    • Find UDisc and swipe it away

    • Or: Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ UDisc β†’ Force Stop

    • Wait 10 seconds

    • Reopen UDisc

  2. Restart your device

    • Turn your phone completely off

    • Wait 30 seconds

    • Turn it back on

    • Open UDisc

  3. Check for app updates

    For iOS:

    • Open the App Store

    • Tap your profile icon (top right)

    • Scroll down to see pending updates

    • If UDisc has an update, tap Update

    For Android:

    • Open Google Play Store

    • Tap your profile icon (top right)

    • Tap "Manage apps & device"

    • Look for UDisc under "Updates available"

    • Tap Update if available

  4. Check your device's operating system

    • Make sure your iOS/Android is up to date

      • Go to Settings β†’ General β†’ Software Update (iOS)

      • Or Settings β†’ System β†’ System update (Android)

  5. Clear app cache (Android only)

    • Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ UDisc

    • Tap Storage

    • Tap Clear Cache (NOT Clear Storage yet)

    • Reopen UDisc

  6. Reinstall the app

    ⚠️ Important: If you're a UDisc Pro subscriber, your subscription is tied to your account, not the app installation. You won't lose your subscription by reinstalling.

    Your data is safe: All scorecards, stats, and account info that have been uploaded to the database will sync when you log back in.

    To reinstall:

    • Delete the UDisc app from your device*

    • Restart your device

    • Reinstall UDisc from the App Store or Google Play Store

    • Log in with your account credentials

    • Your data will sync automatically

    *This will remove any locally stored data that hasn't synced to the cloud.


Issue: App freezes or becomes unresponsive during use

Solution:

  1. Force close the app

    • Follow the force close steps above

    • Reopen UDisc

  2. Check your storage space

    • Go to Settings β†’ General β†’ iPhone Storage (iOS)

    • Or Settings β†’ Storage (Android)

    • You need at least 500 MB free

    • If low on storage, delete unused apps or photos

  3. Close background apps

    • Too many apps running can cause performance issues

    • Close apps you're not using

    • Restart your device

  4. Check for updates

    • Make sure both UDisc and your device OS are updated

    • Follow update steps above


Issue: App opens but immediately closes (crashes on launch)

This often indicates a corrupted installation or compatibility issue.

Solution:

  1. Check device compatibility

    • Verify your device meets minimum requirements (listed here)

    • Very old devices may not be supported

  2. Clear app data (last resort)

    ⚠️ Warning: This will remove any locally stored data that hasn't synced to the cloud.

    For Android:

    • Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ UDisc

    • Tap Storage

    • Tap Clear Data

    • Reopen UDisc and log in

    For iOS:

    • iOS doesn't have a "clear data" option

    • You'll need to delete and reinstall (see below)

  3. Reinstall the app

    • Delete UDisc completely

    • Restart your device

    • Reinstall from app store

    • Log in to sync your data


Issue: App crashes only when using specific features

Solution:

  1. Try the feature in a different context

    • If scorecards crash, try creating a new test scorecard

    • If it works with new scorecard, the issue is with specific data

  2. Check feature-specific requirements

    • Some features require UDisc Pro subscription

    • Some features require internet connection

    • Some features require GPS/location enabled

  3. Report the specific feature to support with details


Issue: "UDisc has stopped responding" error (Android)

Solution:

  1. Wait a moment

    • Sometimes the app recovers on its own

    • If "Wait" option appears, try waiting first

  2. Force close

    • Tap "Close app" or "OK"

    • Follow force close steps above

    • Reopen UDisc

  3. Clear cache and data

    • Settings β†’ Apps β†’ UDisc β†’ Storage

    • Clear Cache first, test

    • If still crashing, Clear Data

    • Reopen and log in


Additional Troubleshooting

Check for interference from other apps

Some apps can cause conflicts:

  • VPN apps (try disabling temporarily)

  • Battery saver apps (may limit app performance)

  • Security/antivirus apps (may block features)

  • Screen overlay apps (can interfere with permissions)

Check permissions

Make sure UDisc has necessary permissions enabled:

For iOS:

  • Go to Settings β†’ UDisc

  • Enable Location, Notifications, Photos, Camera (as needed)

For Android:

  • Go to Settings β†’ Apps β†’ UDisc β†’ Permissions

  • Enable Location, Storage, Camera (as needed)

Network issues

If crashes happen when loading data:

  • Check your internet connection (WiFi or mobile data)

  • Try switching between WiFi and mobile data
