πŸ“ How to edit an existing Smart Layout

Make changes to your existing Smart Layouts using the Layout Builder in Course Tools.

Audience: Course Ambassadors | Level: Beginner

Getting started

Start by accessing your Course Tools. You can find them by going to UDisc.com/dashboard or through the course listing.

Select the Layouts tab, then select the layout you want to work with.

  • On desktop, select it from the list on the left β€” the layout details will appear on the right

  • On mobile, use the dropdown at the top of the screen to choose your layout

Once you've selected a layout, tap Edit to open it in the Layout Builder.

You can also create and edit Smart Layouts in the Layout Builder directly from your League or Event Tools.

What the Layout Builder does

The Layout Builder is a configuration tool, not a mapping tool. Rather than editing your course map, you're selecting which existing tees and targets to use for each hole and how they connect. Your course map itself lives in Map Manager, which is where most mapping edits should be made.

Editing layout details

From the General tab, you can update:

  • Layout name

  • Caddie book intro

  • Layout-specific rules and notes

Updating holes

You have two options for updating hole configurations:

  • Option 1: Edit directly on the map β€” Walk through each hole and select new tees or targets by tapping them on the map.

  • Option 2: Use the Overview tab β€” Use the dropdown menus to change tee and target selections for each hole quickly.

When selecting a target for a hole, you'll see two types of options in the dropdown:

  • Physical targets β€” listed at the top, with the target type shown next to each option. The layout will automatically update when the basket moves and will remain active regardless of pin placement.

  • Positions β€” listed below physical targets, showing all available pin placements. The layout will only be active when a basket is installed in that specific position.

For each hole, you can also adjust the hole name, par, and hole notes. Keep in mind that changes made here only apply to this layout β€” they won't affect Map Manager or any other layouts. If you want a change to apply across all layouts, make it in Map Manager instead.

To override the par on a specific hole for this layout, tap or click the par field on the hole you want to adjust β€” this opens a box where you can select the par you want to use. To remove an override, follow the same steps and revert to the original par.

Note that par overrides at the layout level won't affect what you see on the Hole score breakdown section of your Stats dashboard, and the maximum par allowed is 6.

There are two cases where the Layout Builder can create new map elements:

  • Temporary tees or targets β€” these can be added directly in the Layout Builder if needed for a specific layout

  • New fairway paths β€” if no fairway currently exists between your selected tee and target, a new one will be created.

    • On any hole with a newly created fairway, an Add/edit doglegs option will appear in the top right. Tap it, then use the dot(s) to move the fairway and set your doglegs, and tap Confirm when done. This option remains available any time you return to that hole before publishing β€” once the layout is published, doglegs on these fairways can no longer be edited in Layout Builder.

Existing fairways can't have their doglegs edited in Layout Builder because they're part of your course map and shared across multiple layouts β€” any change would affect every layout using that fairway. For doglegs on existing fairways, use Map Manager instead.

For all other fairway edits, you'll also need to use Map Manager.

Once a layout exists, the number of holes cannot be changed. If you need a layout with a different number of holes, create a new layout instead.

Publishing your updates

After making all necessary changes, tap Publish layout to save your updates and make them available to players immediately.

Updating layout status

You can change the status of any layout from the Layouts tab. Select the layout, then select the status indicator β€” it will say Active or Disabled β€” and choose your desired status from the options that appear.

Disabling a layout

Disabling a layout removes it from the public list of available layouts. Players won't see it when starting a new scorecard, but it will still appear under inactive layouts β€” they can access it by selecting Show inactive when creating a scorecard.

Use this option if you want to temporarily hide a layout but may need it again in the future.

Retiring a layout

Retiring a layout is the closest thing to permanently removing it. A retired layout is completely hidden from players and won't appear anywhere in the app, including the inactive layouts list.

To retire a layout, it must first be disabled. Once disabled, select the Disabled status indicator and choose Retire from the options that appear.

Before retiring a layout, keep in mind:

  • Existing scorecards using that layout are not affected

  • Players' profile stats for that layout are preserved, but the layout won't appear on the My course stats page, so players will not be able to view those stats there

  • Layouts can be unretired by the UDisc team, but depending on how much the course map has changed in the meantime, restoring it may impact the map

We recommend only retiring a layout if you don't plan to use it again in the future. If there's any chance you'll need it again, disabling it is the safer choice.

Converting an event layout to a course layout

If you created a layout as an event-specific layout but want it to function as a permanent course layout, you can convert it. Select the three-dot menu on the layout and choose Convert to course layout. The event label and any availability dates will be removed, and the layout will function as a regular course layout from that point on.
