A flex start event lets players arrive and begin their round at any time during the event window — no assigned tee times or starting holes. It's the most common format for casual weekly leagues.
Option 1: Use the Casual sign up template
The easiest way to run a flex start event. When creating a league event, select the Casual sign up template — flex start is already configured.
Go to League tools → Events → + Create new event
Select Casual sign up
Configure the date, course, and divisions (optional)
Tap Create event
Players can now check in and create their own cards when they arrive. See Which league event template should I choose? for a full comparison.
Option 2: Use the Casual multi-day round template
For events that run across multiple days or a full week, select the Casual multi-day round template. It supports event windows up to 30 days, so players can play any time during that period.
Go to League tools → Events → + Create new event
Select Casual multi-day round
Set the start and end date
Select Flex start as the start format
Review remaining settings and tap Create event
Note: The Casual multi-day round template doesn't support recurrence. Use the duplicate tool to schedule your season — see How do I duplicate a UDisc event?
Option 3: Manually configure flex start
For existing events or standalone events, you can configure flex start manually in Event tools.
Go to Event tools → Scoring tab
Select Yes next to I will be using UDisc to score my event
Under Start format, select Flex start
Under Who can create scorecards? select Players and event admins
Tap Save
Note: Setting Who can create scorecards? to "Players and event admins" is what allows players to check in, create their own card, and add playing partners. Without this, only admins can create cards.
Admin controls
Even with flex start enabled, admins can still add players from the Participants tab, create card groupings from the Cards tab, and monitor scoring from the Leaderboard tab.
Common questions
When can players check in and start their round?
Check-in opens at midnight local time on event day. Players can create cards and start playing anytime from midnight until the event end time.
Can I still create cards as an admin in a flex start event?
Yes — admins can always create cards from the Cards tab, even when players can create their own.
Players can't check in to my flex start event — what do I do?
Go to Event tools → Scoring tab and make sure Who can create cards? is set to "Players and event admins." Players can only check in when this setting allows player card creation.
Can players join existing cards?
Yes — when creating a card, players can see and join existing cards that haven't started yet.
