๐Ÿ”ข How do I change my course's hole count?

If your course has added or removed holes, you can update your course map in Map Manager. Once changes are published, your course's hole count in the UDisc directory will update automatically.

Quick Answer

Add new holes or remove existing ones in Map Manager and publish your changes. Your directory listing will reflect the updated hole count automatically.

Adding new holes

Step 1: Open More actions

In Map Manager, tap More actions in the upper right and select Add new holes. Enter all the hole details on the right and tap Save.

Step 2: Add tees and targets

Once the new holes have been created, add tees and targets using the buttons at the top of the map. After adding each element, assign it to the correct hole and fill in all the required details.

Step 3: Save and publish

When everything looks right, tap Save and then Publish. Your new holes are now live on your course map.

Step 4: Create a new Smart Layout

Once new holes are added, you'll need to create a new Smart Layout to include them.

Note: Once a Smart Layout exists, the number of holes in that layout cannot be changed.

If you're looking to reorder or rename existing holes rather than add new ones, see ๐Ÿ”€ Reorder and rename holes.

Removing holes from your course

How you remove a hole depends on whether the change is permanent or temporary.

Permanently removing a hole

If a hole has been removed from your course for good, you'll need to delete every element associated with it โ€” the tee, the target, the fairway, and the hole itself. All four must be deleted. Deleting only the hole and leaving the tee and target will result in those elements becoming unassigned and generating an error on your map.

Note: Deleting a hole permanently removes all hole-level statistics from your Course Statistics tab, including global average scores, score distributions, and hole score breakdowns for that hole. Layout difficulties may also be impacted. See ๐Ÿ”„ What does it mean to reset statistics? for more detail.

Temporarily taking a hole out of play

If a hole is temporarily closed โ€” for construction, maintenance, or any other reason โ€” the right approach is to manage your layouts rather than marking the hole inactive in Map Manager.

  1. Create a new layout that skips the closed hole. Do this first โ€” there must always be at least one active layout on your course.

  2. Deactivate all layouts that include the closed hole. Once your new layout is active, turn off any layouts that route players through the closed hole.

Note: Consider updating your course description in Course Tools โ†’ Details to mention the temporary closure, or use your usual external channels (social media, local disc golf groups, etc.).

Why did a UDisc Admin override the number of holes on my course?

If the hole count on your course listing doesn't match the number of holes in your Map Manager, a UDisc team member may have modified it.

The hole count shown on a course listing should never be higher than the number of permanently installed targets. When mapping a course, you can add any number of holes in Map Manager โ€” for example, mapping 18 holes even if only 6 targets are physically installed. To keep the course directory accurate, UDisc may adjust the listed hole count when it exceeds the number of installed targets.

If you see a note stating "The total hole count should not be higher than the number of installed targets," this is what happened. The adjusted number only affects what's displayed on your course's directory listing โ€” it doesn't represent a specific layout or the holes available for play.
