๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ How to choose or create a layout for your league or event

How to select an existing layout or build a new one for your UDisc league or standalone event โ€” and when to do each.

When setting up your event, you can either pick a layout that already exists on the course or build a new one using the Layout Builder. Here's how to decide which path to take.

Should you select an existing layout or create a new one?

Select an existing layout if you're using a standard course configuration with no changes โ€” the holes, tees, and baskets are the same as always and you don't need to add any hole-specific notes.

Create a new event layout if you need to:

  • Add temporary tee pads or basket positions not on the course listing

  • Add hole-specific notes (local rules, pin placements, hazard markings)

  • Change the hole order or use safari fairways

  • Play an unusual number of holes

Selecting an existing layout

For a league event:

When creating your event in League tools, choose your layout from the Layout dropdown selector. To change it after creation, go to League tools โ†’ Events โ†’ Edit on your event, then select a different layout from the Layout dropdown.

For a standalone or Advanced league event:

Layout selection happens in Event tools after the event is created โ€” you'll need to set up rounds first. For a standalone event, go directly to Event tools โ†’ Caddie book layouts. For an Advanced league event, go to League tools โ†’ Events, select your event, tap Edit event, then go to the Caddie book layouts tab. From there you can select, edit, or create a layout.

See How do I set up rounds? if you haven't created rounds yet.

Creating a new event layout

For a league event:

Tap Missing a layout? Add it here โ€” found directly under the Layout dropdown selector when creating or editing a league event. This opens the Layout Builder.

For a standalone event:

Go to Event tools โ†’ Caddie book layouts โ†’ Create event layout.

For an Advanced league event:

Go to League tools โ†’ Events, select your event, tap Edit event, then go to Caddie book layouts โ†’ Create event layout.

Once in the Layout Builder, you'll configure the layout name, playable dates, and whether to use a fixed basket position or follow the basket. You can build hole by hole using the interactive map or set all holes at once using dropdown menus. When done, tap Publish layout.

Tip: For most events, choose Choose a specific basket position โ€” this locks your layout to the exact positions you select and prevents it from changing if a Course Ambassador updates the course before your event.

Note: To add temporary tees, target positions, or safari fairways, see Adding temporary and safari fairways.

Editing a layout you already created

For a league event:

From League tools, tap into any event tool tab (Participants, Cards, or Leaderboard) to enter Event tools, then go to Caddie book layouts. If you created the layout from your event, you'll see a pencil (Edit) icon โ€” tap it to open the Layout Builder.

Note: No edit icon? The layout is a standard course layout not created from your event. Create a new event layout instead โ€” don't edit the course layout directly.

For a standalone or Advanced league event:

Go to Event tools โ†’ Caddie book layouts (for Advanced league events, get there via League tools โ†’ Events โ†’ select event โ†’ Edit event). Tap the pencil (Edit) icon next to the layout you want to update.

Course Ambassadors

If you're a Course Ambassador, you can edit existing course layouts in Course tools โ†’ Layouts tab. In most cases though, create a new event layout from your event tools instead โ€” editing a course layout affects all players at that course, not just your event.

Where your layout appears

Once published, your layout is visible to players during your event dates and automatically hidden afterward. It stays saved in your tools and can be reused for future events. Share your caddie book with players by opening the layout from the event listing, tapping Caddie Book, then tapping Share.
